About the role
We are looking for vibrant, and experienced Sous / De Parie Chefs to join our Diner and Deli team, at our iconic Oamaru based venue.
The successful candidate will have a passion for cooking and a drive to create innovative and delicious dishes.
Key responsibilities will include:
Help in the preparation and design of all food menus
Produce high quality dishes both design and taste wise
Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards
Fill in for the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary
Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation
Manage and train kitchen staff
Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately
Portion control
Start of day prep and continuous cleaning to ensure food safety
Comply with and enforce food safety standards
Maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and customers
Requirements:
Culinary Qualification: Level 4 or higher
2-3 Years Experience
Availability to work within opening hours (e.g., evenings, public holidays, weekends)
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills Be passionate about food, people and cheese
Deliver exceptional customer service and a world class experience
Previous Sous Chef of Chef de Partie experience preferred

The original factory was set up in 1987 where one cheese, ‘Whitestone Farmhouse’, was launched. We have grown a lot since then to become a globally recognised artisan cheese company with over 25 different cheeses and 75 dedicated staff members throughout New Zealand, with majority in Oamaru. We have recently acquired a new Café & Motel complex on State Highway 1 that is to enhance our operation in Oamaru. This is to be the brand experience and spiritual home of Whitestone Cheese, plus provide a link to the factory with factory tours.
Our Waitaki region's clean water, rich soil, quality pastures, temperate climate and contented cows all make for premium milk, which creates the natural flavours of our premium cheese. We are passionate about the quality of our cheese and ensuring it is world class.
