Complex, nutty, fruity. A sheep’s milk cheddar, Monte Cristo is pressed and matured for approximately six months, to produce a subtle nutty flavour that becomes stronger and more complex as it ages.

Please note that weights are approximate, actual weights may vary.

As a dairy free household we’ve become experts at sheep and goat products. When visiting Sardegna we buy all that we can, because like NZ they have a large sheep culture, with a great variety of reasonable priced sheep cheeses. But when we saw this NZ sheep cheese had won the best cheese prize we jumped to try it. Monte Cristo sheep milk cheese is a mature, smokey, tasty, melt in your mouth addiction! It’s texture is closer to a gouda than a cheddar, but as a tasty cheese would pair well with pickled onions, cheese on toast or any melting need. The only barrier to its enjoyment is the price, which makes it a delicacy you savour as a treat, rather than a staple. NZ could really content with Italian/glibal markets if we used more of our workd class sheep products, hopefully making them much more affordable. YUM!!!
