Jalapeño Totara Tasty Dutch Oven Bread with Barker’s Chilli Jam

A golden, crusty loaf packed with the nutty tang of Whitestone Totara Tasty Cheddar and a gentle jalapeño kick - finished with a sweet-spicy spread of Barker’s Chilli Jam. Perfect for sharing on a cosy winter’s day.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • Mix the dough – In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, 200 g of Totara Tasty Cheddar, and diced jalapeño. In a separate large bowl, stir the warm water and yeast until dissolved. Add the dry mix and stir until a sticky dough forms.
  • First rise – Cover and leave to rise at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Second rise – Fold the dough over itself a few times, cover again, and leave to rise for another hour.
  • Preheat the oven – Place a Dutch oven with the lid on into the oven and preheat to 230 °C for at least 30 minutes.
  • Shape the loaf – Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape into a rough ball. Place onto baking paper, score the top, and brush lightly with oil or butter.
  • Top it off – Sprinkle with the remaining Totara Tasty Cheddar and arrange the jalapeño slices on top.
  • Bake Carefully place the dough (with the baking paper) into the hot Dutch oven. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Rest and serve – Allow the bread to cool slightly on a wire rack, then slice and enjoy warm with a generous spread of Barker’s Chilli Jam.
